Indiana's Nick Dorn getting close to being fully cleared from injury

Indiana basketball is less than a week from its season opener on Wednesday and while injuries have been a theme of the season, one key player could be back for the beginning of the year.
Wing Nick Dorn transferred to Indiana from Elon this offseason but has missed the entire offseason recovering from a foot injury that he suffered last season at Elon. He needed surgery at the early stages of the summer to clean up part of a lingering issue.
Over the last few weeks he’s been progressing in a positive way and now could be fully cleared this week.
“Indiana’s Nick Dorn (foot) hopes to be fully cleared for all basketball related activities this week,” CBS Sports college basketball insider Jon Rothstein tweeted on Thursday. “If so, would be questionable for the opener on November 5th against Alabama A&M, per Darian DeVries. Transfer from Elon who averaged 15.2 PPG and 3.8 RPG last season.”
This past season Dorn averaged 15.2 points, 3.8 rebounds and shot 35.1 percent from three on 3.0 made 3s a game. He made 74 3s on the season.
He made at least two 3s in 21 of 25 games played and at least three 3s in 13 games. He hit five 3s against North Carolina and Notre Dame.
Dorn scored in double-figures in 22 games this past season, including six games of 20-plus points.
Dorn’s best game of the season came in a late December win over Marshall, when he posted a career-high 29 points, making six 3s.

“What stands out most is just his shooting, and that’s what we prioritize,” Darian DeVries said this summer. “He’s got great length. He has the ability to get it off, great size. He’s not bashful, so I love that about him. He’s very confident as a shooter.”
For his career, Dorn has played in 55 games (47 starts) and averaged 12.0 points and shot 35.6 percent from three.
Coming into the season he was, and still is, expected to be a key member of the Indiana roster.
“I spent more time in the film room,” Dorn said this summer. “Learning all the plays, making sure I’m crisp when it comes to knowing where I need to be.”
Indiana has been without Dorn and fellow guards Jason Drake and Aleksa Ristic for different points this offseason. Drake has been out with a foot injury since middle of the summer and did not participate in IU’s Puerto Rico trip or Marian and Baylor exhibitions. Ristic arrived just before IU went to Puerto Rico and participated in Indiana’s three exhibitions. But, he missed the most recent exhibitions while recovering from a foot injury. Forward Josh Harris remains on a scooter with a boot on and is out for the foreseeable future.
