Indiana's Anthony Leal (3) celebrates with Luke Goode (10) after Goode's three-pointer during the Indiana versus Penn St. mens basketball game at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall on Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2025.

IU basketball has a mostly complete roster as the summer workouts begin next week however, the Hoosiers still have a couple of more spots that they would like to feel.

At the current rate, it looks like IU basketball wants to end with at least 13 scholarships for their 2025-26 season and as of right now, they have 11 committed — which are all new players to the program.

The last two scholarships that Darian DeVries and IU basketball are hoping to fill would include two players from last year’s team, those being Luke Goode and Anthony Leal.

“Their waivers are still in process,” said Darian DeVries at Huber’s Winery on Wednesday night. “My understanding is — there are a ton of waivers that have been filed so there’s a bit of a backup there. So from a timing standpoint, we don’t have a ton of clarity on when those decisions will be made. Obviously the sooner the better, but it’s a bit out of our control.”

For Luke Goode, we knew that him trying to get a waiver and gain an extra year of eligibility was always the plan this offseason. He suffered a foot injury in the preseason ahead of the 2022-23 season when he was at Illinois that held him out for all but 10 games. The NCAA requirements for a medical-hardship waiver says that a player can’t participate in more than 30 percent of the number of games and can’t appear after the midpoint of their season. All of his appearances were after the midpoint of the season. He also played just a hair over the 30 percent requirement at 30.3 percent.

Before transferring to Indiana basketball last offseason, Goode spent his first three seasons playing for Illinois. In his first season for Indiana, He averaged a career-best 9.1 points on 41.1 percent shooting, which included going 39.2 percent from deep. He appeared in all 32 games for the Hoosiers, starting in 16 of them. He also averaged 3.1 rebound per game, as well. In 20 Big Ten games, he’s averaged 11.0 points and shot 44 percent from three — cementing himself as one of the top shooters in the league.

Anthony Leal, on the other hand, his pursuit for another year of eligibility came as a bit of surprise considering that he played five full years for Indiana, which included using his COVID year last season. Across five seasons, Anthony Leal made 95 appearances but has never played more than 26 games in a season, and has played 20 or less games two seasons. The 2022-23 season saw Leal make just 11 appearances and play just 24 total minutes.

The Bloomington South (Ind.) guard and former Indiana Mr. Basketball played a career high 21 minutes a game during the 2024-25 season when he started 14 of 26 games played. He averaged 3.3 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.8 assists a game and shot 41.2 percent from three (7-of-17).

IU basketball head coach Darian DeVries stated that they hope to have clarification soon as to whether or not both Goode and Leal are able to suit up next season for the Hoosiers.
