Indiana baseball commit Matthew Fisher has been named the 2024-25 Gatorade Indiana Baseball Player of the Year, Gatorade announced Tuesday afternoon. The award recognizes not only athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character on and off the field.

Fisher, a senior at Evansville Memorial High School, put together a dominant season on the mound to earn the honor. The 6-foot-3 right-hander went 6-0 with a 0.76 ERA, striking out 61 batters and issuing just 11 walks over 36.2 innings pitched. At the plate, he added to his resume with a home run and 16 RBIs.

A consensus top-100 national recruit, Fisher is ranked among the top 20 right-handed pitchers in the country in the 2025 class. He is one of 11 top-500 recruits signed to play for head coach Jeff Mercer and the Hoosiers next season, including seven in-state prospects.

This marks the second consecutive year Indiana has secured the state’s top high school player. Freshman utility player Hogan Denny, last year’s Gatorade Indiana Player of the Year out of Mooresville High School, made an immediate impact for the Hoosiers as a designated hitter with 40 hits, 33 runs scored, and 24 RBIs in his freshman campaign this past season.
