Louis Moore to remain eligible through Week 4 after legal agreement reached

In Indiana’s Week 4 showdown with Illinois, safety Louis Moore will be on the field and eligible to play.
This comes as Moore’s attorney, Brian Lauten, and the NCAA’s attorney, Taylor Askew, have mutually agreed to push back his hearing to no earlier than Sept. 24. With the new hearing set for after the Hoosiers’ matchup with No. 9 Illinois, Moore will be able to compete against the Illini, as well as Indiana’s Week 3 contest against Indiana State this Friday.
The court documents state that the NCAA “agrees to take no action with respect to Plaintiff’s [Moore’s] eligibility” before Sept. 24, although no date has been set for the rescheduled hearing.
PREVIOUS UPDATE: Judge extends injunction in Louis Moore’s eligibility battle with NCAA
Moore’s preliminary hearing occurred Aug. 13, where he was granted a temporary restraining order (TRO) by Judge Dale Dillery in the District Court of Dallas, allowing the safety to remain eligible until an official hearing took place Aug. 27. At that hearing, Moore’s TRO was extended to Sept. 10, which allowed him to play in Indiana’s Week 1 matchup against ODU, as well as IU’s Week 2 clash with Kennesaw State.
In both those games, Moore registered an interception and is one of just four players to intercept a pass in every game their team has played during the 2025 season. That makes Moore’s eligibility crucial for the Hoosiers, especially in a prime-time game like their matchup with Illinois.

Here is background on Moore’s case, from our original story posted August 13:
Moore previously suited up in the cream and crimson in both 2022 and 2023 for the Tom Allen-led Hoosiers. He then transferred to Ole Miss upon Allen’s firing, spending 2024 with the Rebels before deciding to rejoin his old team under Curt Cignetti.
The entire case revolves around Moore’s time leading up to his first stint at Indiana. He played at Navarro College, a JUCO, from 2019-2021. Moore redshirted in 2019. Then, due to COVID-19 during the 2020 season, all players were allowed to play without it factoring into their eligibility. Moore played at Navarro in 2021, which is the year of eligibility that is being contested.
Moore and his attorney argue that his 2021 JUCO season shouldn’t count, while the NCAA argues that it should be included in the “five years to play four seasons” philosophy. Moore’s initial waiver was denied, which led to the ongoing legal action with he and his attorney arguing that a lost season of eligibility will result in lost NIL compensation.
With the Indiana safety’s eligibility beyond Week 4 still in question, we’ll provide updates when they become available.
