Transfer wide receiver Makai Jackson no longer with Indiana football team

Indiana football wide receiver Makai Jackson is no longer with the Hoosiers, a source confirmed to TheHoosier.com Monday afternoon.
The senior wideout, who joined IU from Appalachian State in late December, appeared in four games this season before his name disappeared from the Hoosiers’ online roster. His player profile page now returns a “404” error on the program’s website.
Jackson made three catches for 15 yards during his short stint with Indiana and only appeared in four games this season.
When Jackson committed to Curt Cignetti and the Hoosiers, the expectation was that he would compete for a meaningful role. That outlook seemed even more likely after Michigan transfer slot receiver Tyler Morris suffered a season-ending injury.

However, the Hoosiers added late transfer Jonathan Brady from Cal, and a bulk of the snaps in the slot have instead funneled toward Omar Cooper Jr., who has become the team’s leading receiver with 432 yards and six touchdowns. Brady has also contributed as both a receiver and a threat in the return game.

By leaving after four appearances, Jackson maintains his final year of college eligibility. Before transferring to Bloomington, he had a strong run at Appalachian State, hauling in 73 receptions for 1,163 yards and seven touchdowns across 25 games.
The 6-foot, 190-pound Pennsylvania native was ranked as a three-star transfer by Rivals, rated the No. 42 receiver in the nation.
Indiana has leaned on the transfer portal to replenish its wide receiver depth, but Jackson’s departure underscores how quickly competition has reshaped the Hoosiers’ rotation.
