WR Omar Cooper Jr. announced as Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week

After a career night against Indiana State, the accolades have begun to roll in for Indiana wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr.
Cooper Jr, a redshirt junior, has been named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week after his historic performance in Week 2. This is his first such honor of Cooper Jr.’s career.
He caught 10 passes for 207 yards and four touchdowns, all career highs for Cooper Jr. His four touchdowns tied a program-high, while Cooper Jr. became the ninth Hoosier to surpass over 200 yards receiving.
“What I was pleased most about was his production” Curt Cignetti said after Cooper Jr.’s historic night.
“I think they had a hard time out with him on the perimeter obviously and we got him the ball. There was some space and he took advantage of it.”

The full release from the Indiana reads as follows:
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – After he equaled the Indiana football program record for receiving touchdowns in a single game, redshirt junior wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. was selected as the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday (Sept. 15).
Cooper Jr. piled up four touchdown grabs to equal the program’s single-game mark of James Hardy versus Michigan State in 2006. His touchdown grabs went for 13, 13, 31 and 58 yards, while eight of his 10 receptions accounted for a touchdown or a first down.
The 24 points scored are tied for No. 3 on the single-game scoring charts and tied for the most points scored since Anthony Thompson posted 32 against Northwestern in 1989. His first-career multi-touchdown game marks just the 18th game in Big Ten history with 4-plus receiving touchdowns.
His 207 yards receiving are tied for the most by a Power 4 wideout in 2025 and the most by a Big Ten receiver through Week 3. The receiving yardage total ranks No. 7 on the Indiana single-game charts and are the most since Ty Fryfogle had 218 yards at Ohio State in 2020 – an effort that earned him Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week. Of the 207 yards, Cooper Jr. gained 136 of those after the catch.
