Kansas State lands top portal prize in PJ Haggerty

Kansas State has landed a big fish out of the transfer portal every year under head coach Jerome Tang and have done it again this offseason. Memphis transfer PJ Haggerty has committed to play for the Wildcats this upcoming season.
He withdrew his name from NBA Draft consideration, and though NC State was considered the leader and many others chased his services, K-State wins the recruitment in surprising fashion. Haggerty was the best available transfer remaining and was ranked by On3 as the No. 3 transfer overall.
Ironically, Kansas State and Memphis have been passing a few players back and forth the last couple cycles. After being dismissed from school, Nae’Qwan Tomlin played his final semester with the Tigers and Dug McDaniel entered the portal and committed to play for Penny Hardaway this offseason.
In year one the big transfer get was Keyontae Johnson. Then K-State brought home both Tylor Perry and Arthur Kaluma who were both commodities two years ago. Last cycle it was a handful of guys who were household names in McDaniel, Ugonna Onyenso, Achor Achor and Coleman Hawkins.

Unsurprisingly, Haggerty won the AAC Player of the Year award for the 2024-2025 season and a second team All-American by various outlets. He averaged 22 points, six rebounds and four assists per game. He also shot 36 percent from the three-point line. Technically, he does have two years of eligibility remaining.
Memphis was actually already his third stop. Haggerty averaged 21 points per game for Tulsa the year prior and began his career at TCU. The 6-foot-3 guard is the lead dog in the backcourt Kansas State needed and should pair nicely with both Andrej Kostic and Nate Johnson.
