Two days after the conclusion of Kansas State’s 2024 season, they lost their first player to the transfer portal. Junior guard Cam Carter informed On3 that he plans to leave Kansas State.

Carter spent two seasons in Manhattan, averaging 14.6 points per game and 5.0 rebounds per game in his final year. However, he also averaged 3.0 turnovers per contest and shot less than 31% from three.

Prior to 2024, Carter started every game on K-State’s 2023 Elite Eight squad and was a key role player who scored in double figures in the Sweet Sixteen win over Michigan State.

Before coming to Kansas State, Carter started his career by playing one season at Mississippi State where he appeared in 27 games for the Bulldogs.

Carter saw his role grow during his junior season and he started the season strong. Carter surpassed 20 points in three of the first ten games for the Wildcats and was shooting 32% from three to go with a positive assist-to-turnover ratio. He also averaged 5.6 rebounds per game during that stretch.

As the season wore on for Carter though, his production ticked down. His assist-to-turnover ratio went to 2.4/3.3 and his shooting percentages declined.

A possible indicator of Carter’s situation with Kansas State came in their finale at Iowa in the NIT on Tuesday. Carter played just 28 minutes in Iowa City, tied for the fourth-lowest in a game this season. The only games with fewer minutes were the blowout loss to Kansas, a blowout win in November over Central Arkansas, and a game mired with foul trouble at Iowa State.

Carter becomes the first official departure after the season for Kansas State for reasons outside of graduation. Kansas State currently has three available scholarships for the 2024-2025 season. The transfer portal window remains open until May 1st.
