Kansas State retains Buddy Wyatt for Collin Klein's staff
Kansas State will keep Buddy Wyatt on the coaching staff when the 2025 season starts. While a number of Wildcat coaches found out last week that they wouldn’t be back, Wyatt, along with Brian Lepak and Steve Stanard were not part of that group. It is expected that Lepak will also remain on staff.
Under Chris Klieman, Wyatt coached defensive ends. During his time in that role, since 2019, the Cats have had three Big 12 Defensive Lineman of the Year, all coming from defensive end.
Under Collin Klein, Wyatt will now be in charge of the whole defensive line. Combining the job that Wyatt shared with defensive tackles coach Mike Tuiasosopo since 2019.
Upon his retention, Kansas State released this quote from Wyatt:
“I appreciate Collin placing his trust in me,” Wyatt said. “Kansas State has a strong tradition and culture, and I am excited to be a part of this staff. I look forward to helping our players and this program succeed.”
Klein also commented on his decision to have Wyatt, whom he spent five seasons as an assistant on the same staff with, be part of his inaugural staff:

“Buddy has a tremendous track record of developing young men,” Klein said. “I have always admired how he built genuine relationships with players and staff. He is of the highest character, and I am very excited we he will be with us moving forward.”
Wyatt has coached at 12 different power conference schools in his career, including Nebraska in 2006 when he also had his first Big 12 Defensive Lineman of the Year. His four edge rushers to win the award are the most for one position coach in Big 12 history.
Six of the top seven sack getters from K-State’s defensive line in 2024 are eligible to return in 2025.
