Notebook: How much can Dylan Edwards help Kansas State?

Bye week was important for Kansas State
Kansas State is coming off its first of three bye weeks this season. Offensively, the K-State coaching staff spent a lot of the time off doing self-scouting and figuring out what has worked well and what has not. They’ve thrown out what isn’t fixable and tweaked what can be fixed.
One of the things that has not worked well is the plan on third down, and it has been highlighted in the previous two games where Kansas State has been out-snapped by a large margin. Ironically, one of the things K-State offensive coordinator Matt Wells has been pleased with is how the Wildcats have performed on third and long but he also noted they have been in third and long too many times this season.
In terms of practices, the past few weeks have been about getting back to the basics for the Kansas State offense like running the ball better and protecting the quarterback better.
How does Dylan Edwards help?
It appears as if Dylan Edwards is fully healthy heading into the contest versus UCF. Edwards has basically only played one quarter of football for the Wildcats this season so getting a starter back is a big deal.

He will help out everyone on the K-State offense because he is such a dynamic player and a weapon. Edwards will especially help out in the RPO and zone read game.
Players impressing over the bye
Three Kansas State players were pointed out by Wells as players standing out over the bye week. The first was true freshman offensive lineman Dylan Villarouel. The Georgia native may not see game action or maybe limited action if he plays, but he has had a good last two weeks of practice.
Wells also pointed out Gus Hawkins and Linkon Cure as younger players emerging. Hawkins has played in every game this season and will likely see more and more reps as the season goes on. Cure is as healthy as he has been since the beginning of training camp and is emerging as a major contributor.
