This is the first edition of KSR’s 2025-26 Kentucky Women’s Basketball Position Preview series. In this series, we’ll go through each of the five positions — point guard, shooting guard, small forward, power forward and center — and we’ll break down what is to be expected at each position heading into this season.

It goes without saying at this point, but it’s pretty clear that Kenny Brooks is big on the point guard position. After playing the position at James Madison, he made it his niche to be one of the best point guard-developing coaches in the country.

Georgia Amoore had two offers heading into her collegiate career — Portland and Virginia Tech. Now, she’s in the WNBA as a top 10 pick. However, he can also go get the cream of the crop if need be. Soon enough, Brooks will be bringing in Maddyn Greenway, arguably the best point guard in the 2026 class.

In between Amoore and Greenway is this year — the 2025-26 season. Brooks had a tall task in filling that one-year gap, and he went and got one of the best players in the transfer portal in Tonie Morgan. She will without a shadow of a doubt be the starter at the one next season.

Morgan, a two-time All-ACC point guard, recorded 13.7 points, 5.6 assists and 4.5 rebounds per game as a junior. Heading into her final year of eligibility, she’ll be looking to make the jump to being a WNBA-caliber star while quarterbacking the Kentucky offense.

Things get interesting as far as her backup goes. It doesn’t seem like there’s a true backup one on the team, but there are several players who can at least bring the ball up the floor. Liberty transfer Asia Boone ran the point as a freshman before playing more of a combo guard role last year for the Flames. She’ll probably get the most minutes at point guard behind Morgan.

Then, someone like Josie Gilvin could run the point more sparingly. Her veteran presence and experience with the ball in her hands certainly makes her a capable more down-the-line option. Lexi Blue and Dominika Paurová in a similar spot, but they have far less experience compared to Gilvin.

Of course, if we’re just talking about bringing the ball up the floor, then Teonni Key could certainly fill that role at times. Not many 6-foot-4 players can fly around with the ball in their hands like she can. Clara Strack has some of that ability too. Jordan Obi, Kaelyn Carroll and Amelia Hassett could probably do a decent job of getting the ball past halfcourt too.

Overall, expect Morgan to start, Boone to be the main backup, then it’ll probably be a by committee effort beyond that.
