2025-26 Kentucky WBB Position Preview: Power Forward

This is the fourth edition of KSR’s 2025-26 Kentucky Women’s Basketball Position Preview series. In this series, we’ll go through each of the five positions — point guard, shooting guard, small forward, power forward and center — and we’ll break down what is to be expected at each position heading into this season.
Like the point guard spot, it seems pretty clear who will be starting at power forward heading into this season.
Last year, Teonni Key started in all 31 games, and she took a big leap from her time at North Carolina. As a junior, she put up 11.4 points, 8.3 rebounds, 1.7 blocks and 1.5 blocks per game.
The former top 10 recruit never really got rolling in Chapel Hill for a number of reasons — mainly injury — and she made the move to Kentucky with a chip on her shoulder. As a result, the 6-foot-4 forward quickly became one of Kenny Brooks‘ more consistent and reliable weapons.
So, it goes without saying, but a senior Teonni Key will almost certainly be the starter at power forward. However, there has to be some rotational pieces mixed in there too, obviously. That’s where Amelia Hassett and Kaelyn Carroll come in.

Hassett played at the three last year, but she’ll get to play her more natural position this year — what should be a much more comfortable role for her. As for Carroll, she was probably more of a small forward when she was initially being recruited by the staff, but since then, she’s shot up to being 6-foot-4 and really, pushing 6-foot-5. So, she can certainly slide down and provide some much-needed minutes at the four.
Kentucky should have one of the best frontcourts in college basketball this season. From the starters on down the bench, there’s plenty of talent to keep things steady in the post.
