Jaylen Mosley hasn’t been on the University of Kentucky’s campus quite yet, but that will change this weekend. He’s been hearing plenty of good things about the Wildcats’ football program and is eager to make the trip up. Former Kentucky linebacker Avery Williamson, who is now an assistant coach on Mosley’s high school team, has been putting in a good word about the ‘Cats.

“He tells me about Kentucky all the time,” Mosley told KSR about his talks with Williamson. “He lets me know what’s going on at Kentucky all the time.”

Williamson was a star inside linebacker at UK from 2010-13, earning Second-Team All-SEC honors as a senior before going on to enjoy a seven-year career in the NFL. But now he’s turned to coaching — and is even doing some light recruiting for his alma mater. Williamson is the linebackers coach at Jackson (TN) Christian and he’s been in the ear of Mosley to hype up Kentucky.

“Actually I’ve never been up there, but I’ve seen it on videos and stuff,” Mosley said. “It looks like a great environment, it looks like a real family up there, and I just wanted to get a personal view of it myself.

Mosley will unofficially visit UK on Saturday to watch the ‘Cats take on Ball State. He first heard from the Kentucky staff around the time that Ole Miss extended him an offer in January 2022. But it wasn’t until August 1 — when coaches could make direct contact with class of 2025 prospects — that the interest ramped up.

“I’ve been talking to Coach (Scott) Woodward, the receivers coach, and we’ve been talking for a while,” Mosley said. “He’s been texting me before all my games and things like that. I’ve been talking to him and then he asked me if I could make it up there and I told him I’d come up there.

“They’ve been talking for a while, but August 1 is probably when we actually started talking talking.”

So far, Mosley holds offers from the likes of Ole Miss, Tennessee, Auburn, Louisville, Purdue, Vanderbilt, Arizona, and several others. Although Kentucky has yet to extend him a scholarship, the expectation is that one is coming sooner rather than later — possibly during his visit.

“I plan on getting (an offer) when I go up there,” Mosley added.

Let’s take a step back for a second and get to know Mosley better as a prospect. He’s a 6-foot-1, 185-pound athlete ranked as a four-star high school junior by the On3 Industry Ranking. He’s also a borderline top 300 class of 2025 prospect and is considered a top 10 player from the talent-rich state of Tennessee.

While Mosley is listed as a safety on most recruiting websites, he can play both sides of the ball. Some schools are recruiting him for offense, others for defense. Kentucky is currently prioritizing him as a wide receiver at the college level. Mosley pointed to his deep threat potential along with his quick footwork and reliable hands as traits that make him stand out.

Mosley wasn’t expected to be in Lexington this weekend until just recently. He posted on Tuesday morning that he had a “change of plans” and will be at Kentucky for Saturday’s game. He was originally planning to visit Alabama, he tells KSR, but a trip to UK worked better with his high school schedule. Mosley did say that he will still visit Alabama at some point this fall, along with Ole Miss, Tennessee, Auburn, Cincinnati, and Arkansas.
