Darryn Peterson is on pace to be one of the most sought-after basketball prospects in the country — and he just received an offer from Kentucky.

According to Pro Insight’s Andrew Slater, the Wildcats have extended a scholarship to Peterson, a class of 2025 shooting guard from Cuyahoga Falls, OH. Clocking in at 6-foot-5, 175-pounds, the high school sophomore is the first of his class to announce a public offer from Kentucky. Peterson is widely expected to be one of the top prospects from the ’25 class and was recently ranked as the No. 4 overall player in that group by ESPN.

Up until a few months ago, this would have been seen as a rather unusual move by head coach John Calipari, who was shown a tendency during his time at Kentucky to wait before offering high school kids until at least their junior seasons. And even then those players were typically at the very top of their class. That has changed over the summer though, with Calipari and his staff extending several offers to class of 2024 prospects and now looking even further ahead to the class of 2025.

Peterson isn’t much of a shock as the first publicly announced offer from the ’25 class, either. He plays for the same AAU program that two high-profile Kentucky targets, DJ Wagner and Aaron Bradshaw, also came through. While Peterson doesn’t currently have the same recognition as the likes of Cooper Flagg and Cameron Boozer (a pair of ’25 recruits who might be the two best players in high school, regardless of class), he is a player making early waves in the recruiting world and will have plenty of attention on him moving forward.

In addition to his Kentucky offer, Peterson also holds scholarships from the likes of Xavier, Maryland, Pittsburgh, Arizona State, Ohio State, LSU, Indiana, Missouri, TCU, Illinois, Michigan, Kansas State, Baylor, Texas, Texas A&M, Washington State, Cincinnati, and Arkansas, among others.

Darryn Peterson is a name the Big Blue Nation should go ahead and get familiar with now.
