2K is on campus scanning Kentucky basketball players for video game (oh, and Trent Noah is in a boot)

Kentucky basketball, YOU are in the game! Well, not that game — EA Sports has aborted mission on its plans for a new college basketball video game after Division I schools opted for 2K instead, wanting exclusivity or nothing at all. The Wildcats will be in a game, included as one of the programs expected to be in the first run of downloadable content released for NBA 2K26 early next year. That is no surprise, considering UK’s massive brand and tradition as the winningest men’s program in the history of the sport.
Now, we have confirmation of movement toward Kentucky’s involvement — because 2K is physically on campus scanning the Wildcats for their name, image and likeness as we speak.
The 2K Scan Truck is outside the Joe Craft Center and Memorial Coliseum bringing the players in one by one, using all of their fancy cameras and technology to turn their real-life appearances into virtual form as video game characters. This includes the men’s team under Mark Pope and women’s team under Kenny Brooks, so expect to see some confetti fall and trophies lifted virtually as you play with your favorite players on both sides en route to national championships in 2K26. Fun, right?
Details are few and far between for now outside of pictures taken of the 2K Scan Truck in Lexington, KSR’s own Zack Geoghegan seeing it for himself on campus.
The players are starting to share their own pictures from the session with 2K, including Trent Noah and Brandon Garrison. They posed outside the truck holding up the new 2K26 video game, released in September.
Also included in the photo? Noah wearing a boot just a day after rolling his ankle in the season-opening win vs. Nicholls.

“One of the assistants came up to me at the end of the first half or the beginning of the second half and said, ‘Trent’s good to go,’” Pope said in his postgame press conference. “I said, ‘That’s the craziest thing I’ve ever heard.’ Trent’s the toughest dude I know. He was in a lot of pain on the floor, and he doesn’t ever show that.”
He rolled his ankle going after a loose ball under the basket and went down in excruciating pain, helped off the floor and back to the locker room by the training staff. With fans assuming the worst, Noah then came out of the tunnel at halftime and worked out as if he was going to give it a go in the second half.
“So I went to Brandon Wells,” Pope continued. “Walked down the sideline to Brandon Wells, and I’m like, ‘Brandon, is he ready to go?’ And he’s like, ‘Yeah, we just tested him. He cut, he ran, he said he’s feeling fine.’ And my direct quote was like, ‘Well, Trent Noah is a liar.’ I think I yelled it probably louder than I should have.”
Early returns are overwhelmingly positive on Noah’s long-term status, avoiding yet another injury disaster for the program. We’ll see what that means for Friday vs. Valpo — and even more importantly, next Tuesday at Louisville.
Until then, get excited for the Cats taking over NBA 2K26 in the coming months.
