Kentucky was in the running until the very end for three-star wide receiver Cameron Monteiro, but the Massachusetts product opted for a closer option.

On Wednesday afternoon, Monteiro committed to the Pittsburgh Panthers in front of his friends and family at Brockton (MA) High. The 6-foot-3, 180-pound pass catcher chose Pitt over a list of finalists that also included Kentucky and Virginia. Monteiro, who officially visited the Panthers last week, was initially scheduled to OV at UK this coming weekend, but that trip is not expected to take place.

Monteiro is considered the No. 756 overall recruit from the class of 2024 according to the On3 Industry Ranking.

Kentucky initially offered Monteiro back in Oct. 2022 when wide receivers coach Scott Woodward reached out with a scholarship. The relationship continued to grow from there, with Monteiro taking an unofficial visit to Lexington in April. That led to him scheduling an official visit to UK (the first one he set up) for the weekend of June 16-18, but Pittsburgh’s pitch was obviously enticing enough to lock him in before then.

Offensive coordinator Liam Coen and the Kentucky staff appear to be taking their time when it comes to recruiting wide-outs. The ‘Cats have recently seen targets such as Monteiro, three-star Brandon Rehmann (West Virginia), and three-star Emanuel Ross (Stanford) land elsewhere. But with high-level quarterback play now under center for UK and four-star QB Cutter Boley on the way, there is more wiggle room to search for the perfect match.

Recently, Kentucky hosted three-star WR David Washington Jr. and 6-foot-5 WR Shamar Rigby for OVs while three-star WR Antonio White begins his official visit on Thursday. UK even hosted three-star WR Dorian Williams on an unofficial visit earlier this week and he’ll be back in town for an official this weekend. There are still plenty of options out there for the ‘Cats.
