3 Wildcats To Watch In Fantasy Football

 

Football season has arrived, folks. High schools around the country kicked their seasons off this weekend, and college football for the most part will join them next weekend, and the NFL the week after that. This is also fantastic news for those of us who play fantasy football, and despite Kentucky’s lackluster record on the field in the past few seasons a few alumni are still looking to help the BBN win on the fantasy football field. Most of Kentucky’s talent in the NFL is on the defensive side of the ball or at non-skill positions so there is a limited choice but here are some players from Lexington to keep an eye on in your fantasy drafts, as ranked by ESPN.

 

Randall Cobb, Green Bay Packers — 10th Ranked WR, 30th Overall

After missing 10 games last season with a broken leg, Randall Cobb is back to prove he is a Top 10 receiver in the league. In 2012, he had 80 catches and 8 TD’s and instantly became recognized as one of the best slot receivers and kick returners in the NFL. This year ESPN has Cobb ranked right in between Antonio Brown (PIT) and Andre Johnson (HOU) at #10. Being ranked in the Top 30 overall is proof that people are anticipating a big jump in production again for Cobb in Green Bay, and he may be even more valuable than that in certain leagues that count return yards as well.

 

Steve Johnson, San Francisco 49ers — 54th Ranked WR

Stevie Johnson may not put up the numbers he had in Buffalo over the last 4 years, but he’ll find it a lot easier to get loose on the West Coast. After 3 straight 1,000+ yard seasons in Buffalo, Johnson missed 4 games last year and saw his numbers dip down to 52 catches for 597 yards in 2013 catching passes for rookie QB E.J. Manuel. With a multitude of weapons around him in SF, drafting Stevie early would be a bad move but he definitely will have the ability to steal a few TD’s every now and then.

 

Jacob Tamme, Denver Broncos — Not Ranked In Top 30 TE’s

Jacob Tamme probably won’t get drafted in a lot of Fantasy leagues considering the breakout season the #1 TE in Denver, Julius Thomas, had in 2013. However Tamme would be a solid mid-season pick up were Thomas to be out for any reason. Tamme played in all 16 games last year and caught a TD pass in the AFC Championship Game against New England, but only had 20 total catches.
