And so it begins…

On Monday, it was reported by the Tampa Bay Times that Kentucky men’s basketball commit Karter Knox has reopened his recruitment. This news comes on the heels of head coach John Calipari’s reported move from Kentucky to Arkansas, which broke on Sunday night.

“In the wake of the seismic Calipari news, Kevin Knox — father of five-star basketball prospect and UK pledge Karter Knox — confirmed Monday in a text message to the Tampa Bay Times that his son’s recruitment has re-opened,” Joey Knight wrote this morning.

Knox is a four-star recruit from the 2024 recruiting class and is considered the No. 21 overall prospect according to the On3 Industry Ranking. He is the first of six UK commits to reopen his recruitment following the news of Calipari’s expected departure from Lexington. Knox initially committed to Kentucky on March 9, choosing the Wildcats over Louisville, South Florida, and a return to Overtime Elite.

Where could Knox land next? Depending on who Kentucky hires to replace Calipari, the ‘Cats could still possibly be considered. That being said, the draw of playing at South Florida will stick out. His older brother, Kobe Knox, just wrapped up his sophomore season with the Bulls under up-and-coming head coach Amir Abdur-Rahim, who led USF to a 25-8 record in his first season.

Louisville could technically still be in the mix, but Knox’s ties to the Cardinals revolved around former head coach Kenny Payne, who was fired in March. A return to Overtime Elite could be on the table though. Knox spent the 2023-24 season with the league and made it to the championship series.

Of course, he could simply follow Calipari to Arkansas. Regardless, that’s one piece of Kentucky’s 2024 recruiting class off the board.
