A couple of talented Kentucky kids are returning home for one final season of high school football. KSR has learned Jerod Smith and Jacob Smith are enrolling at Corbin High School.

The Smith twins are originally from Somerset. Last season they attended Cheshire Academy in Connecticut and played alongside some major players in the recruiting ranks. Quarterback Dante Reno is committed to South Carolina and Luke Reynolds, the No. 8 tight end in America, is a Penn State pledge.

Both players are exceptional four-star prospects. Jerod Smith is a defensive lineman ranked as the No. 250 overall player in the On3 Industry Ranking, a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services. Jacob Smith, who’s ranked as an EDGE, is just behind his brother at No. 255.

The Smith twins’ homecoming injects some high-profile talent back into the Kentucky high school ranks. UK commit Cutter Boley is still the highest-ranked prospect in the Industry Ranking at No. 136 overall. Jerod and Jacob Smith are just ahead of another Kentucky commit, Simon Kenton interior offensive lineman Aba Selm.

Kentucky was in the mix throughout the recruiting process for the Smith twins. That is until Jerod Smith got antsy. He committed to Michigan on April 25. Jacob Smith planned on officially visiting UK in the summer, but the pressure to join his brother in Ann Arbor was too much and he eventually joined him by committing to the Wolverines in July.

It felt like the Cats missed out on the four-star brothers. Neither even got to campus on an official visit. This homecoming cracks the door for the Cats to flip a few guys who are now only a short drive down I-75 from UK’s campus. Give Vince Marrow an inch, and he’ll take a mile.
