UPDATE: There has been a change of plans. Instead of officially visiting this week, he’s competing in the Ohio state track and field meet. Brown tells Justin Rowland he has pushed back his trip to UK for the weekend of June 17-19. Brown has an official visit to Cincinnati scheduled for next week.

One of the Kentucky football team’s top targets in the 2023 recruiting class will be the first official visitor of the summer. This weekend the Wildcats will roll out the blue carpet for four-star wide receiver Anthony Brown.

A top 50 pass-catcher, Brown is ranked as the No. 370 player in the country according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

A long-time Minnesota commit, he reopened his recruitment in February and has since unofficially visited Kentucky. Wisconsin, Michigan and Maryland have also taken a keen interest in Brown. Over the weekend he picked up an offer from Oklahoma. The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine considers Brown’s recruitment fairly wide open. Cincinnati is the current favorite at 26.0% with Kentucky right behind at 22.8%.

An Ohio native recruited by Vince Marrow, Brown attends a school that’s sent quite a few players to Lexington. Kordell Looney, Isaiah Gibson and Moses Douglass were all Springfield High School products. Brown’s head coach is former Wildcat Mo Douglass.

Kentucky has prioritized speed when recruiting wide receivers over the past two cycles. Anthony Brown certainly fits that mold. A 5-foot-9 agile pass-catcher, he consistently blows by opponents on his way to the end zone. As a junior he caught 57 passes for 822 yards and nine touchdowns last season to help Springfield reach the Ohio Division I State Championship Game, the largest class in the Buckeye state.

Another High Profile Unofficial Visitor

Brown is Kentucky’s only official visitor, but he will not be the only talented football recruit on campus. Cristian Conyer, a four-star cornerback from South Warren High School (Ky.), will unofficially visit this weekend. He will return to Lexington in two weeks for an official visit. It’s a two-way battle between the Cats and Tennessee for the Bowling Green defensive back’s services. Conyer and Brown know each other well. The two recently went toe-to-toe at a regional football camp.
