Darryn Peterson has been on John Calipari’s radar for quite some time now. In fact, he was the first class of 2025 prospect to receive an offer from the Kentucky head coach. The two sides have continued to develop a relationship.

On Thursday, Travis Graf of Made Hoops reported that Peterson has scheduled an unofficial visit to the University of Kentucky for Saturday, October 14. A rising junior at Huntington (WV) Prep, the 6-foot-5 Peterson is considered a five-star prospect and the No. 2 overall ’25 recruit in the country according to the On3 Industry Ranking. Kentucky offered him a scholarship in August 2022 and he’s been hearing from the Wildcats, particularly associate coach Orlando Antigua, ever since.

Peterson isn’t the only ’25 recruit expected in Lexington during the weekend of Oct. 14. Fellow five-stars Caleb Wilson (PF) and Darius Acuff Jr. (PG) have already scheduled official visits to Kentucky during that time. Although not yet confirmed, the expectation is that Big Blue Madness will take place on Friday, Oct. 13 in Rupp Arena.

Peterson has long been considered a premier high school player but upped his already lofty expectations a notch throughout the summer. Over the last few months, he’s suited up (and thrived) for Team Phenom United on the Adidas 3SSB circuit, the NBPA Top 100 Camp in Orlando (15.4 PPG), and Team USA in the FIBA Americas 16U Championships (16.8 PPG). Everywhere Peterson has gone, he’s shined.

“I feel like I do it all,” Peterson told On3’s Jamie Shaw at the USA Basketball Junior National Team minicamp. “I’ll guard, rebound, score the ball, facilitate, anything my coach needs me to do to get the win; I can do it.”

Obviously, Kentucky is not the only school recruiting Peterson. He also holds offers from the likes of North Carolina, Kansas, Michigan State, Texas, Indiana, Ohio State, and plenty more. So far, he’s already visited Michigan, Michigan State, Xavier, and Ohio State. Peterson is originally from Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio but transferred to Huntington Prep earlier this month. Kentucky is the first school to score a fall visit.

“My dad talks with them a good bit, so a relationship is there for sure,” Peterson told On3 in the spring about Kentucky. “They let their guards go to work and give them freedom. Wherever I go, I want to fit in. I feel like I fit in with how they play.”

There has been talk about a possible reclassification to 2024 for Peterson (Kentucky would take him no matter what class he’s in), but for now, he’ll prepare for the 2023-24 season as a high school junior.
