A plea to the people who orchestrate cheers...

kentucky_wildcats_mascot As football season rapidly approaches, it is not only the players who need to hone their craft. In recent years, a chink in the BBN's armor has revealed itself--at least to me. In my opinion, the C-A-T-S chant has devolved to a shell of its former self. I recall going to games in my younger days and being awe-struck by the chant. The former CATS chant was done one time (instead of the three we do today), in a slower, louder, and intimidating way.  Fans at Commonwealth were able to complete the chant in unison and because the chant was easier than the one today, more people seemed to participate.  The stadium was filled with the cheer. Today, the chant has lost it's power. Instead of the deep and strong CATS cheer I loved as a kid, we hurriedly spell CATS out three times.  By the time the second round begins, fans are out of unison--if they even decided to join in to begin with. No one likes to cheer alone and the anticipation of those around you not being able to stay in unison has a discouraging effect from joining in to begin with. The old chant was easier to do in large crowd. If you agree with this sentiment, take a minute to do something about it--send an email to [email protected] asking them to do away with the new and make way for the old.
