AAU King of the Court Update ---- Romero Osby

by:Matt Jones04/28/07
osby.jpeg Marc Maggard decided to begin his AAU posting soon, going to the "King of the Court" tournament in Nashville. Here is his first report: I spoke to Romero Osby, top 15 player in the nation, and he informed me that UK Coach Jeremy Cox visited him at his high school friday to observe a workout. Kansas & Miss St. had been thought to be early leaders, but Romero informed me that UK has been recruiting him the hardest and is at the top of his list with other schools. Romero sprained his ankle in his first game against Scotty Hopson's Midstate Ballerz, but is expected to play with slight discomfort. UK is also interested in Romero's AAU teammate, highly underrated PG, 5' 10" Courtney Fortson from Montgomery Alabama. Courney is only 172 lbs, yet bench presses 310 lbs and has a 43 inch vertical leap. Fortson has lead Southeast Elite in rebounding from the PG spot for the past two years (more than Osby and UC verbal, Darnell Wilks). 80-85 percent FT shooter and gets to the line 7+ times a game. Coach Mark Komara says in years of coaching players, including many McDonald All-Americans, he's never had a warrior with the heart of Fortson. Last year, at Bob Gibbons tournament of champions, Courtney went head to head with Brandon Jennings and had 26 pts while Jennings was held to single digit points. Late UPDATE: Romero Osby has left the tournament to get xrays on his ankle just to be sure. He will not be playing the rest of the weekend.
