[caption id="attachment_261585" align="aligncenter" width="1440"] UKathletics[/caption] The well-deserved recognition for UK Softball's Abbey Cheek keeps piling up. After being the first Wildcat ever named SEC player of the year on Tuesday, it was announced earlier today that Abbey Cheek has made the top 10 list for National player of the year by USA softball. The senior third baseman leads the SEC in batting average and on-base percentage this season while also being top-10 in doubles, home runs, RBIs, hits, and slugging percentage. Cheek also holds the school record for career home runs with 60home runs and counting.
Cheek and the Wildcats will start SEC tournament play Thursday at 7:30 p.m. ET when they take on the winner of Mississippi State and Ole Miss on the SEC Network. The Softball Cats are sitting at 23rd in the nation, so they will have to have an exceptional week at the SEC tournament to be one of the 16 national seeds which will allow them to host the first round of the NCAA tournament at John Cropp Stadium. If they sneak back in the top 16 before then, it will be the third straight season Kentucky will host as a national seed.
Go Cats. @BrentW_KSR
