ACT and SAT not required for admission to UK in 2021-22

Studying for and taking the ACT and/or the SAT really sucks, but now prospective UK students won't have to do it. Beginning next year for UK's 2021-22 academic calendar, those tests that high schoolers hate will no longer be required to get into UK. The school announced it is going "test-optional" for admission, meaning more students will have access to higher learning on UK's campus. From the news release released Thursday:

National research, as well as our own institutional data, indicates that for many students, high school GPA alone is a significant predictor of academic success.

And for some students a standardized test score may not show all that they are capable of and tell the full story of their potential. A test-optional admissions policy allows the applicant to choose whether SAT or ACT test scores will be considered as part of the admission review — letting the applicant decide how best to tell their own academic journey.

The release also notes this current fall semester was also test-optional due to the COVID outbreak back in the spring, so it appears that standardized tests used for college admissions could be one of the casualties of the pandemic, along with office parks and shaking hands and pants with buttons.
