Afternoon Notes

by:Matt Jones01/04/10
richbrooks3 Our usual feast of posts for Monday have been cut short by the continued server problems. So we have missed some news. Lets hit it quickly: --- Obviously the big story is the official retirement of Rich Brooks. His press conference brought down the site and the house, as it was clear that while he had some misgivings about the decision, he felt it was time to go. He spoke about wanting to win the Tennessee game and the 4th Bowl game, but said he is at peace with his decision. He says he plans on still being around the program and wants to help it get "to the next level, where it should be" in the years to come. We will have more on the Brooks legacy later tonight. --- John Calipari did his afternoon press conference and said he "didnt know" if he had words with Reginald Delk during the game. He noted that there was a lot of emotion during the contest and that it was a battle throughout. One has to assume that means that he likely did say something to Delk (I assume he would know if he hadnt) and that means that our initial viewing of the proceedings on DVR were likely correct. --- Demarcus Cousins is SEC Player of the Week for the last week of play, and the award is well-deserved. Boogie dominated the Hartford game and was THE story coming out of the Louisville game. He has shown himself to be a worthy third star on this team and if he controls his emotion, can provide the final lift to a potential title-run for this team. We are still getting site issues worked out all afternoon and hopefully we will be back to normal soon. I am on with Terry Meiners at 4:00 pm on WHAS and we will have our podcast tonight, when it hopefully wont contribute to more site crashing. Big day in UK land, but it is sad to see Rich Brooks go.
