Another situation where a representative of the Alabama basketball program was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Jaykwon Walton, a transfer from Wichita State who announced his commitment to the Crimson Tide in March, was arrested in Tuscaloosa Saturday night. He was charged with second-degree possession of marijuana and was found with multiple loaded weapons.

Walton was one of three individuals present at the time, two being charged with misdemeanors — back-seat passenger Kameron Deshawn Harris being the other. The driver was released with no charges.

“The officers smelled marijuana and asked the three men to exit the car,” Tuscaloosa Police Department spokeswoman Stephanie Taylor told Patch.com. “Front seat passenger Jaykwon Walton, 21, of Pike Road in Montgomery County, informed an officer of a loaded firearm under his seat. While retrieving the firearm, the officer noticed a rolling tray, a baggie containing approximately 20 grams of marijuana and a half-rolled blunt in the passenger side floorboard.”

Taylor added that officers found two more loaded weapons, along with another baggie containing 12 grams that belonged to Deshawn Harris. Both individuals were released after posting $500 bond.

Walton announced his transfer to Alabama back on March 28, joining the Tide after averaging nearly 14 points per game in 32 minutes per contest in 27 starts at Wichita State. The 6-foot-7 guard originally signed with Georgia and played two seasons for the Bulldogs in a minimal role, suiting up in just nine games.

Now, the Alabama pledge is out after less than one month with the program.

“Alabama is no longer recruiting Jaykwon Walton and he will not be a student-athlete at The University of Alabama,” head coach Nate Oats announced in a statement.

Oats’ decision to part ways with Walton comes following a year of gun-related controversy surrounding the program. Former Tide player Darius Miles and his friend Michael Davis were charged with capital murder following the shooting death of Jamea Harris on January 15.

Former Alabama star Brandon Miller was at the scene of the crime, but was ruled a witness to the murder, not a suspect. Guard Jaden Bradley, a former five-star recruit, was also named in court by law enforcement as a witness. The former is a projected top-three pick in this summer’s NBA Draft while the latter is now in the transfer portal.

Miller was the subject of questions regarding his involvement the remainder of the season, including during the SEC and NCAA Tournaments. Oats was, too, a PR disaster all the way through the finish line.

Now there’s another serious gun-related mess in Tuscaloosa.
