Alabama trending for former Kentucky center Ugonna Onyenso

Ugonna Onyenso may not be done with SEC Basketball just yet. This morning, On3’s Jamie Shaw and Joe Tipton registered RPM (Recruiting Prediction Machine) picks for Onyenso to choose Alabama with a 60% confidence level. The former Kentucky center entered the transfer portal last week after initially declaring for the NBA Draft on April 15. He will have two years of eligibility remaining.
According to Shaw, Alabama, Oklahoma, Georgetown, Louisville, and Florida were the first schools to reach out to Onyenso when he hit the portal on April 23. Shaw says the Crimson Tide, Sooners, and Cardinals have all made a push for the seven-footer in recent days.
Last season, Onyenso started 14 games, averaging 3.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.8 blocks in 19 minutes per contest at Kentucky. Over two seasons in Lexington, he averaged 3.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks per game. When Ugo initially declared for the draft, he told ESPN he wanted to show NBA scouts that he has an offensive game despite making only 18 field goals last season, none from three.

“I want the NBA to know that I am a big that can shoot the ball,” Onyenso said earlier this month. “I am not just a defensive player. It’s not only about blocking shots with me. I did what I needed to do to help the team, but I don’t think anyone saw what I am capable of doing. I am excited to show people that. My ability to shoot, put the ball on the floor and create for myself.”
Nate Oats prioritizes shooting, so if Ugo does go to Tuscaloosa, we’ll see if he follows through on that goal.
