Allen Mitchell came away impressed with Kentucky after unofficial visit

With a new offensive scheme and position coach, Kentucky is on the hunt for a running back in the class of 2023.
On Sunday, the Wildcats hosted some intriguing talent that got to work with new assistant John Settle. The former Wisconsin running backs coach is an experienced veteran that knows exactly what he is doing within a football camp setting.
St. Louis De Smet's Allen Mitchell was in attendance, and the 5-foot-9 tailback loved what he saw on the unofficial visit and in the camp workout. Mitchell knew of Coach Settle from his work done at Wisconsin and was excited to work with the coach at the camp. Kentucky's staff made a real impression on the young running back.
"I love Kentucky," Mitchell told KSR. "Kentucky coaches are real nice. It was a fun experience being able to work with Coach Settle and everybody else. I loved it. I loved the visit. Kentucky showed me a lot of love, the coaches showed me a lot of love."
Settle, of course, would be Mitchell's position coach in Lexington but he is not the one running point in Missouri. Safeties coach Frank Buffano is slowly building up relationships in the Show-Me State, and the former director of football operations has Kentucky in good shape with the top-15 prospect in the state.
So far in the recruiting process, Mitchell has offers from Kansas, Kansas State, Kentucky, Michigan State, and Minnesota. The tailback has been to Manhattan to see Chris Klieman's K-State program and followed that up with a trip to Lexington. Mitchell is set to go to Nebraska on Friday and then will visit Michigan State in the last week of June. This is a midwest prospect that has plenty of Power Five interest.
To help sell him on the program, Kentucky sat down and watched tape with Mitchell to show how new offensive coordinator Liam Coen will utilize him in the new offense. The Wildcats are looking to create isolation matchups for their skill talent. On tape, Mitchell makes a ton of plays in the passing game for DeSmet operating out of the slot.
"I watched tape with them," said Mitchell. "It was just stuff on how they would incorporate me as a versatile back. How they would use me in their offense -- a guy who can get to the edge, a guy who can win one-on-one matchups, a guy who can run through the hole as well."
The recruitment is still in its early stages, but Mitchell came away impressed with Kentucky football. The rising junior is focusing on winning player of the year honors in Missouri but would like to return to campus this fall to see the team in action at Kroger Field.
