Murray State has stolen the hearts of the college baseball world in 2025, upsetting SEC power Ole Miss and ACC contender Duke to punch the program’s first-ever ticket to the College World Series. No one expected the Racers to survive the Oxford Regional, and they certainly didn’t expect them to come out of the Super Regional as a 4-seed and massive underdog — but they did it anyway.

Now, they’re in Omaha ready to compete for a national championship out of Calloway County, media darlings and the ultimate Cinderella story. Head coach Dan Skirka, recently named NCBWA National Coach of the Year, doesn’t know how to control his emotions as this dream postseason run becomes a reality.

“When we pulled up yesterday to see the stadium, and to see our banner hanging on the stadium, I mean — I mean, just unbelievable,” he told KSR. “Unbelievable. … It’s a great group of guys. If you’re looking for somebody to root for, they really, really are a great group. So it just means the world to them; I mean, it really does. And it’s awesome.”

Awesome, indeed.

KSR’s Steven Peake — a Murray State alum and diehard fan — takes a look at the team’s historic run through the Missouri Valley and NCAA Tournament to get to this point and why everyone — especially Kentucky fans — can’t stop talking about the Racers.

The Racers will take on UCLA on Saturday at 2 PM ET, live on ESPN. Needless to say, they have Big Blue Nation’s complete support this weekend and beyond.
