by:Anthony Wireman03/01/10
  There has been much talk about Kentucky's 3-point shooting (or lack therof) following the weekend loss at Tennessee. In the game, Kentucky went an ice cold 2-22 (9.1%) from beyond the 3-point line. Now the question arises: is this just a bad outside shooting team? Let's break down the numbers and discuss: Team 3-Point Shooting Schedule, Result and 3PT Shooting Morehead State W 75-59; 4-19 (21.1%) Miami (OH) W 72-70; 6-11 (54.5%) Sam Houston State W 102-92; 11-22 (50.0%) Rider W 92-63; 4-16 (25.0%) vs. Cleveland State W 73-49; 5-11 (45.5%) vs. Stanford W 73-65; 6-19 (31.6%) North Carolina-Asheville W 94-57; 8-18 (44.4%) North Carolina W 68-66; 6-16 (37.5%) vs. Connecticut W 64-61; 1-6 (16.7%) Indiana W 90-73; 7-14 (50.0%) Austin Peay W 90-69; 8-12 (66.7%) Drexel W 88-44; 9-13 (69.2%) Long Beach State W 86-73; 6-19 (31.6%) Hartford W 104-61; 14-28 (50.0%) Louisville W 71-62; 2-14 (14.3%) Georgia W 76-68; 2-14 (14.3%) at Florida W 89-77; 7-18 (38.9%) at Auburn W 72-67; 5-14 (35.7%) Arkansas W 101-70; 10-33 (30.3%) at South Carolina L 68-62; 3-12 (25.0%) Vanderbilt W 85-72; 12-23 (52.2%) Mississippi W 85-75; 9-19 (47.4%) at LSU W 81-55; 5-17 (29.4%) Alabama W 66-55; 3-16 (18.8%) Tennessee W 73-62; 7-19 (36.8%) at Mississippi State W 81-75; 4-24 (16.7%) at Vanderbilt W 58-56; 3-16 (18.8%) South Carolina W 82-61; 3-11 (27.3%) at Tennessee L 74-65; 2-22 (9.1%) Home: 131-337 (38.9%) Neutral: 12-36 (33.3%) Road: 29-123 (23.6%) SEC: 75-258 (29.0%) Non-SEC: 97-238 (40.8%) Season: 172-496 (34.7%) Trends: - Last 10 games (starting with USC loss): 51-179 (28.5%) - Alarming trend in last 4 games: 12-73 (16.4%) - In UK's 2 losses on the season: 5-34 (14.7%) Individual 3-Point Shooting: Liggins 13-31 (41.9%) Patterson 20-49 (40.8%) Miller 36-94 (38.3%) Bledsoe 31-87 (35.6%) Dodson 37-105 (35.2%) Wall 25-79 (31.6%) Harris 4-26 (15.4%) Others: Harrellson 2-4 (50.0%) Hood 4-9 (44.4%) Cousins 1-6 (16.7%) Krebs 1-9 (11.1%) Stevenson 0-1 (0.0%) Orton 0-2 (0.0%) Individual Notes: - Ill-advised shot of the year: Orton's attempt in the UT loss - Dodson's slump: 2-21 (9.5%) in last 7 games - Bledsoe's slump: 7-36 (19.4%) in last 11 games - Wall's slump: 3-23 (13.0%) in last 7 games - Most reliable shooters on the team: Patterson and Liggins? Really? - Weirdness: Harrellson and Hood are 6-13 (46.2%); Harris is 4-26 (15.4%) - Consistency: Patterson has made a 3-pointer in 8 of last 9 games What's going on? - Just a slump? - SEC defenses are focusing on a weak spot? - Tough stretch of games? - Just a bad shooting team? - Taking bad shots? - Wrong players taking the shots? I have heard all of these ideas discussed in the past two days. What are your thoughts? Let's discuss in the comments...
