WATCH: Kentucky releases All-American hype video for Antonio Reeves

Since John Calipari took over the Kentucky basketball program, the Wildcats have produced numerous All-Americans at an efficient clip. There have been nine players named a first or second-team All-American under Calipari’s watch. Most have been one-and-done freshman. There was a second-year point guard (Tyler Ulis) and a third-year big (Willie Cauley-Stein) that found a way to break into the club. Oscar Tshiebwe became the first transfer to become an All-American at Kentucky under John Calipari.

Antonio Reeves could become the second.

The former Illinois State transfer is averaging 19.9 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.7 assists on .500/.449/.875 shooting splits. Reeves is a hot shooting run at the charity stripe away from joining the storied 50/40/90 club. The veteran is an elite scorer and has been Kentucky’s most consistent player this season.

The 6-foot-6 guard has scored 20-plus points in three consecutive games and looks like one of the best players in America. However, there does not appear to be a ton of buzz for the veteran with a likely NBA future due to his multi-level scoring ability.

Kentucky is attempting to change that. On Sunday, the Wildcats released a video with former Kentucky All-American Kenny Walker that Reeves might be the most under-appreciated player in Kentucky history. That is certainly an argument you can currently make with relative ease. Reeves is Kentucky’s best player and will play a big role in where this season ends up.

After Saturday’s big win over Alabama where Reeves recorded his ninth 20-plus point performance in SEC play, the Wildcats will be looking to close the season strong. Kentucky would not be in this position without the former transfer who is in year two at Kentucky.

Antonio Reeves could give John Calipari yet another All-American. The Wildcats are showing that they do not need to go the superstar high school recruiting route to find college basketball stars.
