It’s official: Antonio Reeves is a Kentucky Wildcat. A day after committing, the former Illinois State wing signed with the program, Kentucky shared in a press release.

“Big Blue Nation, I’m excited to get to Lexington and play on the biggest stage in college basketball,” Reeves said. “Coach Cal loves his players, he loves the game, has developed pros, and won a national championship. That’s what attracted me to Kentucky. It’s time to put in work and go for another natty.

“I’m really excited about Antonio and what he can bring to our team,” John Calipari said. “He’s a veteran scorer who not only has the ability to knock down shots but can create off the dribble. I like that he’s shown the desire to work and improve his game which has then translated to demonstrated performance as he’s continued to elevate his game each year. When talking with Antonio, I loved more than anything that his number one goal was to be at a place with a winning culture, so he has the chance to chase a championship.”

Reeves led Illinois State in scoring as a junior, averaging 20.1 points on 46.9% from the field, 39.0% from three, and 81.8% from the line to go with 3.5 rebounds and 1.1 steals per contest. He led the Missouri Valley Conference in scoring and finished top 20 in all of Division I. He scored in double figures in 31 of 33 games last season, including 18 20-point performances. It was his best year in college, averaging 7.2 points per game as a freshman and then 12.4 per game as a sophomore. Last season, Reeves made 76 threes, hitting three or more in 13 games.

Reeves entered the transfer portal on March 21 before hearing from the likes of Alabama, BYU, LSU, Memphis, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio State, Wisconsin, and Xavier. He visited Nebraska in early April, his only other visit. Reeves is from Chicago and played at Simeon High School as a three-star recruit before spending his first three college seasons at Illinois State. He also played for Mac Irvin Fire, the EYBL team Chin Coleman coached from 2005-11, hence the Kentucky connection.

Welcome to the BBN, Antonio. Let’s go win that natty.
