Archie Goodwin will face his former TBT team in La Familia's Sweet 16 game

Through two games with La Familia, Archie Goodwin has been his team’s best player in The Basketball Tournament. The former Kentucky Wildcat has led his squad in scoring both times out, even hitting the Elam Ending game-winner during Sunday’s thrilling win over War Ready. He went for 19 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds in game one on Friday before dropping 16 points, six assists, and four rebounds in game two.
But this isn’t anything new for Goodwin on this stage — he’s a TBT veteran, having spent the last four summers playing in this event for Eberlein Drive, which is one of only two teams that have fielded a roster every year since TBT’s inception in 2014.
And wouldn’t you know it, that’s who Goodwin and La Familia will face next in this single-elimination tournament with a $1 million grand prize.
“The team that we’re playing next is my old team. So I know a lot of those guys pretty well,” Goodwin said following Sunday’s Round of 32 win. “I think that we’ll do a great job of preparing for them, because I know they’ll prepare for us well, I know how they do.”

It was more than likely that this showdown would happen, too. As the top two seeds in the Lexington Regional, the bracket aligned to pit these two teams against each other in the Sweet 16. Just like La Familia did, Eberlein Drive took care of business in its first two games, beating Richards Elite 81-63 in the opener and Tampa Florida Pickup Basketball in round two 86-68.
La Familia might be the Lexington Regional’s top seed, but Eberlein Drive is the 2-seed for good reason. Gabe York, who shined at Arizona before spending a brief stint in the NBA, has been the star thus far with his 20 points per game. Five of his teammates are averaging 8.0 points per game or better. It’ll certainly be another tough battle for La Familia, but Goodwin believes this team has the horses to keep pushing forward.
“I think we have the guys to win this thing,” Goodwin said. “You see it. We have the talent.”
Goodwin will have the chance to prove it when he and La Familia face his former team on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. ET (FS2) back inside Memorial Coliseum. With some background knowledge on how Eberlein Drive operates, he should be able to share some tips with head coach Sean Woods in the film room between now and tipoff. A spot in the quarterfinals is on the line.
