Kentucky freshman sensation Austin Cousino and his USA Collegiate National Team finished up their summer campaign, winning the bronze medal in the Netherlands. Cousino, a centerfielder for Kentucky who led the Cats in nearly every hitting statistic, was also the leading hitter for Team USA, pacing the squad with a .357 average in 16 games. He collected four doubles, five RBI and scored ten runs. Making those numbers even more impressive is that international rules mean no aluminum bats like in the NCAA; it’s wood only. Team USA finished the summer with a trip to Havana, Cuba where they played the Cuban National Team in a five-game set, going 2-3 at Latin American Stadium. The team capped the season by traveling across the globe to the Netherlands playing in the Honkbal-Haarlem Baseball Week tournament. Team USA steamrolled through the Netherlands, Japan, Chinese Taipei, but fell to Cuba in the semi-finals. In their final outing, USA knocked off the Netherlands again in the consolation game to take home the bronze. The USA Collegiate National Team is made up of the top 22 players in college baseball. Cousino was joined by six other players from the SEC. Congratulations to Cousi and the rest of the team for bringing home some hardware. [Source]
