On Saturday against the Orlando Magic, Anthony Davis looked like he was playing at Kentucky against an exhibition team. The Brow recorded seven blocks to go along with 28 points and 13 rebounds, however, the Lakers as a whole did not channel their inner Wildcats as the Magic ran away with a 19-point victory.

The Lakers are now 3-3 on the season as many good teams are off to a slow-to-mediocre start of the season.

Davis has been on an absolute tear over the last five games, averaging 28.2 points, 14 rebounds, and 5.8 stocks. It will be great if he can mix it up and stay healthy all season.

Tyrese Maxey continues to excel for the 76ers

It is really hard not to like Tyrese Maxey. A serious contender for the NBA’s Most Improved Player this season, he has made losing James Harden a non-factor for the 76ers, as he has filled that scoring void and then some.

On Saturday, Maxey continued his impressive start to the season, dropping 22 points and dishing out 10 assists in Philly’s victory over the short-handed Phoenix Suns, who were without Devin Booker who is nursing an ankle injury.

Maxey also led his team in the plus-minus category with an incredible +24.

The strong performance came on his birthday, as the newly minted 23-year-old celebrated with cinnamon rolls. They aren’t quite Mrs. Cal’s brownies, but a solid choice nonetheless.

Other BBNBA Notes

  • With no De’Aaron Fox in the lineup, Malik Monk still came off the bench for the Sacramento Kings, but led the team in points and assists anyway. The former Kentucky guard had 18 points and seven assists in his team’s loss to the Houston Rockets.
  • Karl-Anthony Towns had a solid game for the Timberwolves, posting a line of 25 points and seven rebounds in Minnesota’s blowout win over the Utah Jazz.
  • Jamal Murray left his game early with some hamstring tightness. He only played 10 minutes and put up two points and two rebounds before his departure.
