BBNBA: Anthony Davis and SGA duel in high-scoring affair
Thursday night’s NBA slate was jam-packed with tons and tons of great and exciting action, but the headline of all it came from the battle between former ‘Cats Anthony Davis of the Lakers and MVP-candidate Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the OKC Thunder. It was back-and-forth for a little while, but SGA and the Thunder began to run away with the game after outscoring the Lakers 42-23 in the second quarter.
In the loss, Davis did everything he could to try to put Los Angeles in a position to be competitive. He scored a team-high 31 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, which were tops for the Lakers. Davis also shot an efficient 11-18 (61%) from the field. There wasn’t a single Laker who was on the good side of the +/- spectrum, but Davis’ -12 was one of the best on the team (among the main contributors), for what it’s worth.
However, SGA’s effort was plenty enough to put his team on top. The one-time All-Star just outshined AD with his 33 points, seven assists, and four rebounds for the Thunder. Oddly enough, Gilegous-Alexander was also 11-18 from the field as well. When his team needed him the most, he put the Thunder on his back and willed them to victory. Cason Wallace scored 10 points and grabbed three rebounds to help get Oklahoma City to victory as well.
Other BBNBA Notes:
- The Portland Trail Blazers rode Shaedon Sharpe‘s 29 points and 10 rebounds to a 103-95 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Cavs had won six of their last eight games coming into the matchup.
- Julius Randle was two assists shy of a triple-double as the New York Knicks defeated the 2-17 Detroit Pistons 118-112. Randle put up a 29/10/8 line in the win.
- The red-hot Minnesota Timberwolves won yet again against the struggling Utah Jazz, 101-90. Karl-Anthony Towns scored 32 points and recorded 11 boards on the night.
- Alongside rookie sensation Victor Wembanyama, Keldon Johnson put up 22 points and 11 rebounds in the Spurs’ 137-135 loss to the Atlanta Hawks. The 3-15 Spurs may very well end up with another No. 1 pick in next year’s NBA Draft.
- PJ Washington put up a solid 10 points, eight rebounds, and five assists to power the Charlotte Hornets to a narrow 129-128 win over the Brooklyn Nets. The Hornets snapped a two-game skid with the win.
- Oscar Tshiebwe was called up to the Indiana Pacers from the G League but did not play in the Pacers’ loss.
