BBNBA: SGA Shines After Leading Thunder Over Pistons

IMG_4616by:Katelyn Perkins10/31/23

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander put up 32 points in the Thunder’s win against the Pistons on Monday night. Thanks to SGA’s great performance, Oklahoma City was able to get the 124-112 victory over Detroit, improving to 3-1 on the young season. Fellow former Wildcat Cason Wallace also saw some action against the Pistons. Wallace, who was taken in the lottery by the Thunder back in June, only had four points in his 22 minutes played, but all of them came in the fourth to propel OKC to an even greater lead.

Gilgeous-Alexander chipped in nine rebounds, four assists, and three steals in addition to his game-high 32 points while Wallace added four rebounds and two assists to his stat line. The former Kentucky boys’ points helped OKC secure a big and much-needed win on Monday after getting beat down on Sunday by the defending champion Denver Nuggets on Sunday.

AD’s double-double carries Lakers past Magic

Anthony Davis and the Lakers barely squeaked by the Orlando Magic on Monday in Los Angeles. Davis and L.A. got off to a strong start in the first quarter but found themselves down 58-54 heading into halftime.

With less than 15 seconds left and up 104-103, Davis swatted away a layup attempt made by the Magic as Orlando tried to take the last-minute lead. The block allowed the Lakers to get the ball back and score two free throws to get the 106-103 dub. L.A. closed the game on a 12-5 run. Davis finished his night with 26 points, 19 rebounds, five assists, and three blocks in his 38 minutes of action.

Hornets, Washington Fall to Brooklyn at Home

On Monday night the Charlotte Hornets faced off against the Brooklyn Nets at home. PJ Washington was the second-leading scorer for Charlotte with 15 by the end of the night. He also pulled down 12 boards to finish with a double-double. Unfortunately for Washington and the rest of the squad, his efforts were not enough to take away a Hornets win as they fell 133-121.

Nick Richards also got some time on the court for the Hornets on Monday night. Although Richards only had four points, he was able to grab two rebounds and knock away two blocks in his 13 minutes on the hardwood. Richards also currently leads the team in blocks with an average of 1.7.

Other BBNBA Notes:

  • Tyler Herro was a bucket for the Heat against the Bucks on Monday, finishing with 35 points, although the rest of the team could not do enough to bring them over the hump in the fourth quarter as they went down 122-114. Fellow Wildcat Bam Adebayo was not on the court for Miami after being ruled out due to a bruised hip.
  • The reigning champion Nuggets barely made it past the Jazz in a 110-102 win. Jamal Murray played big minutes for Denver, coming away with 18 points on his own. The team remains number one in the Western Conference as they sit at 4-0 so far on the season.
