A night after former Kentucky teammate Immanuel Quickley knocked down five three-pointers in New York’s ninth consecutive victory, Tyrese Maxey knocked down six on Monday to hold off the Indiana Pacers and keep the 76ers lead over the Knicks in the division at four games.

It’s such a shame we never got to see the duo of Quickley and Maxey in an NCAA Tournament game, as these two are seeming to turn it up a bit in the month of March.

After coming off the bench for 14 consecutive games, Maxey has started the last four games for Philadelphia. Since rejoining the starting lineup on March 1st, Maxey is averaging 26.5 PPG, six more than his season average. The former ‘Cat has had to step up with Tobias Harris being day-to-day and he has done just that. In 37 minutes of action Monday night, Maxey scored 24 points on 8-13 shooting. He also drilled six of his nine three-point attempts, helping the Sixers hold off the Pacers in an offensive slugfest.

Maxey will be integral to Philly’s success, as they are just two games out of the two seed in the Eastern Conference. The Sixers play a relatively easy schedule through the month of March, so a Philly run to the two or even the one seed isn’t out of the question, especially if Maxey continues his hot streak.

BBNBA Notes:

  • Bam Adebayo scored 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds in Miami’s comeback 130-128 victory over the Atlanta Hawks. Tyler Herro struggled, making just five of 14 shots. Miami’s victory was integral, as a loss would have moved Atlanta 1.5 games behind Miami for the seven seed. With the win, the Heat continue to work their way up and out of the Play-In Tournament.
  • Fan favorite Shaedon Sharpe scored just six points on 2-2 shooting in Portland’s 110-104 victory over the lowly Detroit Pistons. The Blazers are in a dogfight to make the Play-In Tournament, so wins over lottery teams are extremely crucial at this point in the season. Portland is just a half-game out of the 13-seed, and just five out of the four-seed. The Western Conference is a free-for-all. Hamidou Diallo scored nine points and grabbed eight rebounds for Detroit.
