We’re at that point of the year where we are playing football on Tuesdays, so that’s great. Anyways, while the NFL and every league in the country limp through the holidays, we still had some former Kentucky Wildcats make headlines at some point over the weekend. Let’s get into it.

Brandin Echols the playmaker

The sixth-round pick from this past draft has been nothing short of astounding this season. After having questions regarding whether he was even a draftable prospect, Echols has established himself as a legit number two corner for the Jets in his rookie campaign.

The Jets defense is reaching historically bad levels so it’s difficult to gauge anyone based on team accolades, or lack thereof. Looking in a vacuum though, you can take away at least some positive attributes for the future. One being the play of Brandin Echols.

In what’s already an impressive year, Echols had the best game of his young career on Sunday in Miami. The former ‘Cat finished up with four tackles and three pass defenses to supplement a pick-6. The interception was the first of his career, and admittedly was the first pick-6 for him since JUCO.

The sudden rise and subsequent performance of Echols is one of the better stories to come out of Lexington in recent years. He may only be playing because of a lack of talent on the New York roster, but he’s taken every opportunity given to him so far.

Jamin Davis double digit day

If you look at the Washington Football Team fanbase on Twitter, you soon realize that they absolutely despise Jamin Davis. Twitter is also where nuance and rationality matter as much as grammar.

If you want to look at it like a normal person, you see a rookie linebacker who built off an encouraging rookie campaign with another impressive performance. In the 27-17 loss to the Eagles on Tuesday, Davis finished with 10 combined tackles while playing on 77% of reps.

Up to 67 tackles on the year now, Davis is gaining serious experience and knowledge while in the midst of a playoff run for the Football Team. Even if he’s still showing some rookie mistakes, there’s enough optimism there to get excited about what Jamin can still become in the future.

Other notable performances

  • Quinton Bohanna (DAL) had two tackles on 17 snaps.
  • Lonnie Johnson Jr. (HOU) had three tackles and a pass defense on 61 snaps.
  • Josh Allen (JAX) had two tackles on 41 snaps.
  • Bud Dupree (TEN) had two tackles and a QB hit on 29 snaps.
