BBNFL Week 7: Chris Rodriguez Jr. muscled in for his first TD of the season

Chris Rodriguez Jr. probably feels like he’s been at King’s Island all year with his roller coaster ride he’s been on all season. He got a vote of confidence from the Commanders when they traded Brian Robinson during the preseason, effectively moving him up the depth chart. However, he was then a healthy scratch for the first two weeks. Then, he got elevated to starter for a couple of games, only to not play a snap last week. Now, in Week 7, Rodriguez rushed for his touchdown of the year.
C-Rod’s touchdown was very C-Rod. The man who Kentucky fans fondly remember for always falling forward did exactly that on Sunday. On a 3rd and 1 from the three yard line, Rodriguez took the handoff and plunged ahead, barely breaking the plane of the goal with his final surge. Officials initially called him down just short, but replay confirmed he got the score.
The play came late in the 3rd quarter of what was an otherwise forgettable afternoon for Washington. The Cowboys blew out the visiting Commanders by a final score of 44-22.
Wan’Dale Robinson has huge game in epic Giants loss
You may have thought the Arizona Cardinals’ monumental collapse to the Tennessee Titans in Week 5 was an all-timer, but the New York Giants said, “Hold my beer.” In short, the Giants held a 19-0 lead over the Broncos in the 4th quarter. The final score was 33-32 with the Broncos somehow prevailing. The insane 46 combined points in the 4th quarter (33 of them coming from Denver) were capped off with a missed extra point from New York and a game-winning field goal by the Broncos. You can’t even begin to describe the agony of Giants fans.

If it is any consolation to them, however, Jaxson Dart looks good. It is hard to admit, but the former Ole Miss quarterback might be legit, and Wan’Dale Robinson is a beneficiary of it. Robinson caught six out of his 10 targets for 95 yards, including multiple big-time plays for first downs.
Robinson also got an assist for a touchdown when he tipped the ball to a teammate who took it in for a score. Now that he is in his contract year, the Giants will almost certainly look to extend the former Kentucky pass-catcher to lock him up for the next several years.
Other BBNFL Notes
- Josh Hines-Allen added seven more QB pressures to his total on Sunday, which ties him for 5th in the league. He also had a QB hit, giving him 11 on the year, which ranks 3rd in the NFL in this subcategory of QB pressures. Kentucky’s sack leader may only have one sack this year, but he’s still getting to the quarterback.
- The Buffalo Bills made an encouraging roster move on Monday by designating rookie cornerback Maxwell Hairston to return from the Injured Reserve list. Hairston injured his knee in training camp in August and has been sidelined ever since. He now has 21 days to make his return before the league requires him to return to the IR, so don’t look for him to play against Carolina in Week 8. Instead, a Week 10 return against the Miami Dolphins is much more likely for Hairston’s NFL debut.
- In less-than-encouraging news, the Houston Texans waived cornerback Zion Childress. The team picked him up off the Cowboys’ practice squad a few weeks ago, but with defensive back Jaylen Reed (knee) activated to their main roster, Childress was the odd man out after not playing a single snap. Hopefully, another team signs the former Wildcat soon.
