Teams having a Week 14 bye just isn’t natural. The 18 game schedule has thrown every natural inclination about playoff races right out the window. At least that means we’ll have an extra week to see how some of our former Wildcats develop in the league. Specifically with Chris Westry and Brandin Echols. Let’s dive in.

Chris Westry and Brandin Echols getting significant reps

If there is any sort of upside to the Ravens losing star players every other week, it’s allowed for Chris Westry to get significant time at the corner position. Westry was inactive ever since Week 1 and wouldn’t touch the field for months. A litany of injuries to Baltimore’s secondary allowed Westry to reenter the lineup in the Week 10 loss to Miami.

In the three games that he’s been getting starters reps, Westry has 10 tackles and three pass defenses. The 24-year-old had six tackles and one pass defense on Sunday against Cleveland.

For the New York Jets, Brandin Echols has really cemented himself as the number two corner across from Bryce Hall in the franchise’s defensive system. After missing the past three games due to injury, Echols played 97% of the Jets defensive snaps in his return to the lineup. He didn’t light up the stat sheet, partly because New York’s defense is historically awful this year. Either way, Echols had four tackles, one for loss, in an overall impressive return to the lineup for the rookie.

Other notable performances

  • Jamin Davis had five tackles and a pass defense on 47% of snaps.
  • Corey Peters had three tackles on 52% of snaps.
  • Lonnie Johnson Jr. had two tackles on 14% of snaps.
  • Josh Allen two tackles on 75% of snaps.
