Did you know the Belmont Stakes is tomorrow? Probably not.

The third gem of the Triple Crown snuck up on horse racing fans this year, thanks in large part to Rich Strike‘s Preakness absence. The Kentucky Derby winner‘s connections kept their word, using the extra time to get the horse ready for the long distance race at Belmont Park. They added an unorthodox element to Rich Strike’s training regimen.

The Derby winner isn’t even the favorite in the race. That title belongs to We the People, a colt owned by Bobby Flay who’s won three of its last four starts, most recently in the Grade III Peter Pan Stakes at Belmont Park. You’ll get Nest at a great price. The Todd Pletcher filly won the Ashland at Keeneland, but came in second at the Kentucky Oaks to Secret Oath, who finished fourth in the Preakness.

The horse I’ve got my eye on is Mo Donegal. A strong finisher at the Wood Memorial, he could not find a clear path through the crowded Kentucky Derby field, ultimately finishing fifth. Last year Essential Quality finished fourth, sat out the Preakness, then won the Belmont. History can repeat itself with Mo Donegal.

Post time for the 1 1/2 miles Belmont Stakes is set for 6:49 pm ET on NBC.
