Boogie Fland focuses on three schools -- including Kentucky

2024 five-star guard Boogie Fland nearing a final decision, and Kentucky remains firmly in the running to land his commitment. After hosting the Harlem, NY native on an official visit from Sept. 8-10, John Calipari brought his entire staff with him to Fland’s school, Archbishop Stepinac, for the New York Basketball Coaches Clinic just days after the trip to Lexington. They followed it up with an in-home visit less than a week later — three in-person meetings across a 10-day stretch.

The effort from Coach Cal, Orlando Antigua, Chin Coleman and Chuck Martin is paying off, as the five-star prospect is focused on just three schools down the home stretch of his recruitment.

“Indiana, Kentucky and Alabama are the schools pushing hard to get me and I’m focused on those three schools,” Fland told Dushawn London of 247Sports.

Alabama and Indiana attended Fland’s practice on Wednesday, all three programs receiving official visits this fall. The 6-foot-3 guard also had a visit scheduled to Maryland, which has since been canceled. He previously included UConn, North Carolina, St. John’s and Michigan among finalists, as well.

Kentucky’s relationship with Boogie Fland

What are Fland’s thoughts on the Kentucky Wildcats, who extended a scholarship offer back on July 13, 2022?

“(Kentucky is) a winning program under Coach Cal, you know? He came in and had an immediate impact on the entire university and on the fan base, everything,” Fland told KSR this summer. “They’ve got the No. 1 recruiting class coming in, so it’s good.”

Fland is rated as the No. 15 overall prospect and No. 1 point guard in the 2024 On3 Player Rankings. Known for his flair and charisma, the Harlem native is a shot-maker at all three levels and boasts a tight handle with elite playmaking abilities. He gets trigger-happy at times and he’s thin for his height at 175 pounds, but he oozes confidence and embraces the spotlight — a significant part of the appeal for John Calipari and the Kentucky coaching staff.

What will the school he chooses be getting in the five-star guard? Let him tell you in his own words.

“A leader, that’s the main thing,” he told KSR. “Someone who is going to come in and make an impact. I’m not going to care about any points, not care about any stats. I just want to come in and do what’s necessary to win and be a successful program, do what I have to do.”

A decision is around the corner for Fland. Will it be Kentucky?
