One of the top homegrown players in the junior class has locked in his OV to Lexington.

Tommy Ziesmer, a three-star EDGE rusher out of Boyle County High School (KY), will take an official visit to Kentucky’s campus the weekend of June 10-12, he tells KSR. Justin Rowland of Cats Illustrated first reported the news. Ziesmer is a 6-foot-1, 240-pound rising senior out of Danville, KY who is considered the No. 561 overall player in the nation and the fourth-best in the state of Kentucky, according to the On3 Consensus.

Additionally, Ziesmer will visit West Virginia the weekend of June 24-26. For right now, those are his only two official visits scheduled this summer, but he added that he will “probably” set up more. Ziesmer has already visited both UK and WVU for unofficial visits. He also holds offers from the likes of EKU, WKU, Marshall, UAB, Purdue, Virginia, Louisville, and Tennessee. Kentucky and WVU both initially offered back in March 2020.

Associate head coach Vince Marrow serves as Ziesmer’s lead recruiter. UK has long compared him to the mold of a young Josh Paschal.

As a junior in 2021, Ziesmer was a significant factor for a Boyle County defense that powered its way to a 4A state championship victory and a 14-1 overall record. He appeared in all 15 games for the Rebels, registering 61 total tackles, including 27 solo and a team-high 10 sacks. Ziesmer also recovered a fumble for a touchdown and caught a touchdown on offense during the season.

Kentucky currently has just five commitments from the 2023 class, three of which hail from the Bluegrass State. It was initially thought that the staff could take upwards of six-to-seven in-state players from this class, however, as the last several months have toiled along, that number might have dipped a couple. But with Ziesmer locking in an OV, he appears to be one of the local products high on the staff’s board.

Heading into the summer, it’s a two-horse race between the Wildcats and Mountaineers for the services of Ziesmer.
