Brad Calipari joins staff at LIU Brooklyn as special assistant

Brad Calipari is taking his coaching talents to Brooklyn. After spending one year in Lexington as a graduate assistant, Calipari has been hired as a special assistant to the head coach at LIU Brooklyn under Derek Kellogg.
Kellogg, who played for Kentucky head coach John Calipari at UMass, has been the coach of the Sharks since 2017.
Jon Rothstein was the first to break the news of Brad’s addition to Kellogg’s staff.
Brad has not yet announced his departure, but did write a sentimental message on Instagram about his first year as a coach in Lexington.
“It all started as a dream, and I’m still dreaming!” Calipari wrote. “Been blessed from the beginning, and never took that for granted. Now, year 1 is in the books!! Through every stop along the way.. From NJ, Philly, Memphis, UK, Detroit, and then back to UK. There’s never been anything like #BBN. Best fan base in the COUNTRY!!”

Brad joined the Kentucky staff last offseason as a graduate assistant, where he was involved in all on-court activities with the Wildcats including practices, individual workouts and film sessions. He also played an integral role with the staff in the development of practice plans and advanced scouting of upcoming opponents.
He previously played at Kentucky from 2017-19 before transferring to Detroit Mercy, where he saw action in 33 games over two seasons for the Titans. During the 2019-20 season, Calipari averaged 6.1 points per game and connected on 51 3-pointers.
Now, he’s taking another next step forward in his coaching career, joining the staff at LIU Brooklyn as a special assistant.
