Former Kentucky and current Houston Rockets guard Brandon Knight is finally nearing his return to the court.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, Knight is being assigned to the Rockets G League affiliate where he will play for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.

Knight was involved in an offseason trade that sent him and forward Marqueese Chriss to the Rockets in exchange for Ryan Anderson and De’Anthony Melton.

Knight underwent surgery on his right knee back in the summer of 2017 to mend a torn ACL but a post-surgery infection had delayed his rehabilitation process.

He was forced to sit out the entire 2017-18 season because of the injury and has not played in an NBA game since February of 2017.

The Rockets are currently 9-11 – second to last in the Western Conference – and have been struggling to find the same type of help that they had last season in Luc Mbah a Moute and Trevor Ariza – who are both no longer with the team. The trade for Knight came with expectations that he would be the backup point guard whenever he does return to full health. With how poorly the Rockets current backup guard gaurd Michael Carter-Williams has played to begin the season, Knight’s eventual return couldn’t have come at a better time.
