Brandon Knight, Terrence Jones and some awards

by:Thomas Beisner02/28/11
For what seems like the 3,000th time, a UK player has earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors.  Point guard Brandon Knight was this week's recipient - the fifth time he's been honored this season - thanks to averaging 21 points, 5.5 asssists and 4 rebounds in UK's two games with Arkansas and Florida.  He currently sits only three-pointer shy of UK's single-season freshman record. Knigth's teammate, meanwhile, earned some national love.  Terrence Jones was named a finalist for the Oscar Robertson National Player of the Year Award.  The freshman from Portland, who I would argue is the second-best player on the team (but that's for a different day), was one of the ten finalists for the award.  It will be awarded April 1 and is based on a vote of national basketball writers.  No Kentucky player has ever won the award. ***10 hours, 50 minutes until Jorts Day.
