Mark Pope has his first commitment at Kentucky — and it’s a big one.

BYU signee Collin Chandler, a top-40 recruit in the class of 2022, flipped his commitment to the Wildcats on Tuesday. Travis Branham of 247 Sports broke the news with a statement from the 6-4, 170-pound shooting guard out of Utah.

Spending two years away on mission, he’s now ready to begin his college basketball career in Lexington as a Wildcat.

“I am grateful for Cougar Nation in taking me in as family from day one and supporting me in a precious time of my life. I have been blessed to be able to experience such a passionate and loving fan base. I am especially grateful for Coach Pope and the mentorship and trust he has given me from the very beginning,” he told Branham. “The journey of chasing dreams is beautiful. Chasing my dreams and aspirations in the game of basketball has always brought me so much joy and fulfillment. The game means the world to me.

“This journey has already taken me to places i could never have imagined. Growing up, my biggest dream was to play against the best players in the world. I am beyond grateful to be given the opportunity to do just that. Through the past couple of days, the path I had before envisioned has been blurred. After talking with my family and many prayers, this vision has become clearer than ever. I am humbled to get the opportunity to continue this journey at the University of Kentucky! Go Wildcats!”

Chandler was rated as the No. 34 overall recruit and No. 6 combo guard in the final On3 Player Rankings in 2022.

“Has good positional size and is very athletic, both vertically and laterally. He competes on the defensive end, moves well laterally and in the passing lanes,” On3’s Jamie Shaw said of Chandler. “Is a smooth shooter, confident both off the catch and the bounce. Will need to continue adding strength. Is good off the bounce, straight-line downhill. Would like to see him develop the handle, the counter dribbles, etc. You like the competitiveness.”
