Sitting at 1-5 on the year, there’s not a whole lot to like about the product the Kentucky basketball team is putting on the floor right now. They’re missing shots, turning the ball over, not playing defense and giving up leads, and that’s just the on-court issues.

But that’s just surface-level issues, right? There has to be something working for the team right now, something they can build off of as we close out the first part of the non-conference schedule and enter conference play?

Well, not really, at least in terms of team stats. Running through the list of updated numbers, UK is in the top 100 nationally in just three total categories: blocked shots, three-point defense and rebounding margin.

Outside of that, Kentucky is No. 200 or worse in nine different categories and No. 300 or worse in two, including No. 320 in three-point field goal percentage. And that’s out of 328 total teams playing college basketball.

Because I’ve already compiled the stats and now feel obligated to share the results, here is a breakdown of the not-so-bad, kinda bad, really bad, and horrible.

  • Tied for No. 30 in the nation (5.0 BPG)

  • Tied for No. 33 in the nation (27.1% allowed)

  • Tied for No. 83 in the nation (6)

  • Tied for No. 152 in the nation (118 in 6 games)

Fewest Turnovers

  • Tied for No. 195 (100 in 6 games), only two teams (Marist and Middle Tennessee) have more in 6 games or fewer

Scoring Margin

  • Tied for No. 222 (-1)

Field Goal Percentage

  • No. 227 in the nation (147-345, 42.61%)

Free Throw Percentage

  • Tied for No. 230 in the nation (76-114, 66.67%)

Steals Per Game

  • Tied for No. 241 in the nation (5.7)

Turnovers forced

  • Tied for No. 265 in the nation (12.33 per game)

Assists Per Game

  • Tied for No. 271 in the nation (11.5 per game, 69 in 6 games)

Scoring Offense

  • No. 271 in the nation (65.8 PPG)

Win-Loss Percentage

  • Tied for No. 290 in the nation (16.7%)

Turnover Margin

  • No. 299 in the nation (-4.3)

Assist Turnover Ratio

  • No. 302 in the country (77 assists to 111 turnovers, .69)

Three-Point Field Goal Percentage

  • No. 320 out of 328 in the nation (25-103, 24.27%)

Hey, at least shot blocking and three-point defense is going well, right? Let’s just forget about everything else on the list, OK?
